The Quest to Determine How Many Personality Traits Exist The trait theory of personality suggests that personality is composed of a number of broad traits. Outgoing, kind, aggressive, and energetic are just a few of the terms that might be used to describe some of these traits. But just how many different personality traits are there? There have been a number of different theories proposed over the years with regards to exactly how many traits there might be. The following are some of the estimates and theories put forth by different experts. Using a statistical technique known as factor analysis, Cattell whittled down Allports original list of approximately 4,000 traits to what Cattell called the 16 source traits. He believed that these underlying traits were what influenced the behaviors that are referred to as personality. His list of 16 factors included apprehension, emotional stability, openness to change, self-reliance, and sensitivity. Each factor represents a dimension and he suggested that people could be high or low (or in the middle) with regards to a particular trait. Eysenck: Three Traits Psychologist Hans Eysenck narrowed the list of traits down even further, suggesting that there were just three. He believed that Cattells system included too many similar traits and originally proposed that human personality could be explained using just two factors: extraversion/introversion and emotional stability/emotional instability. He later added a third factor known a psychoticism, which related to a persons tendency to be psychotic or sociopathic. Contemporary View: Five Personality Dimensions Today, one of the most popular theories is Costa and McRaes five-factor theory. Often referred to as the big five, this theory suggests that there are five broad personality dimensions. Each dimension exists as a continuum and an individuals personality can lie at any point on that continuum for that particular trait. Almost all Microsoft products are complementary to a member of the Windows family of operating systems for personal computers and servers. This had put up a question that whether Microsoft was unethical in bundling its product or was it an innovation. Was it right to increase the sales by almost stopping the sales of others? The strategy which Microsoft adopted was not ethical as the others were suffering because of this and had no choice left before them. Hence what Microsoft did was against the ethics of the marketplace. RESEARCH STUDY (ADVERTISEMENTS AND ETHICS) In this project we have attempted to conduct a research concerning the public’s opinion about the level of ethics in advertising. Through this study we want to address the problem of the level of ethics in advertisements nowadays and what is the people’s reaction and how sensitive they are towards the issue of ethics in advertising. For the purpose of this study, questionnaires were distributed to a sample of 50 students and were asked to give their honest opinion regarding this issue. DATA REPRESENTATION Q. Do Advertisement shows an accurate view of reality? Here , 15 people strongly disagree with the situation that advertisement shows exact reality and 10 people are strongly agreeing and 10 are disagreeing with the situation which shows that every individual is having different opinion according to their thinking. Q. Do you think general television advertisements promote materialism? In this out of 50 respondents , 27 respondents think that advertisements promote materialism while other 22 people think they don’t Q. How do you view the level of ethics in general advertising? Q. Which off the following issues in general advertising would you consider being unethical ? A relatively mixed reaction is noticed in this answer. while majority believed that they perceived â€Å"lack of trust† issue in advertisement as unethical. A good lot also believed that advertisements of cigrattes and alcoholic beverages were also unethical. Q. Mention a brand name in front of the product categories mention below ? Q Would you still buy the same brand of shoes if that company is dealing in wrong practices ? For e. g. child labor 43 of sample respondents said that they will not purchase a particular brand having known that the brand deals in unethical practise. Q. Have you ever decided not to buy a product or a service due to an advertisement that you perceived as unethical? 19 respondents said they have not purchased a product having perceived its advertisement as unethical while the majority continued purchasing . Q . Is it fine to use unethical practices to increase profitability of the company? Almost all the respondents believe that it is not right for business houses to engage in unethical practices to maximise their profits. INTERPRETETION AND CONCLUSION The survey done through the distribution of questionnaires revealed following facts: The students interviewed believe that advertisements today have a very unreal appeal to them and do not promote reality while there are a few who also believe that advertisements present a true picture of the real world. The students also believe that advertisements do promote materialism but there was a mixed reaction when asked whether such promotion is ethical. However majority of the people failed to justify their answer and give valid reasons for the same. A huge number of them also think that advertisements do not promote materialism. Also people’s view regarding the level of ethics in the general advertisements was very generalised, for them ethcal level in advertisements is neither too high nor too low. As far as unethical advertisements are concerned, for a majority lot, advertisements which lack trust quotient and are highly exaggerated and misleading are the most unethical. While for others, advertisements promoting cigarettes and alcoholic beverages are also unethical . When asked to name a brand that hit their minds instantaneously corosponding to the products : shoes,deodorant,fainess cream and mobile phone, people had different brand names in their minds as their favourites (most of them being big names). In continuation of this question, respondents were asked if they would still purchase the same brand if they discovered that the brand was associated with unethical practices. To this their response was predictable as most of them refused while a few were not sure. Majority of the respondents have responded that they have decided not to buy a product ,if they have perceived its advertisement as unethical . this shows that a lot of people are sensitive to such issues and have expressed threir dissatisfaction by discontinuing their purchase. While some of the respondents were ignorant and continued purchase. On the other hand most of the respondents believe that it is not right for companies to compromise on their ethical values in order to achieve high profits. RECOMMENDATIONS Considering the high level of unethical issues that are emerging everyday, businesses need to realise that they have to find an alternate to unethical practices. They need to realise that unfair practicse may help them earn profits faster,but the profitability would not last for long . The consumers today are becoming highly aware and such issues cannot escape their knowledge. Thus it is better if companies should strive for using ethical marketing practices . they should Focus on providing good products with lots of benefits, and in this way they will be able to make their marketing honest and irresistible for the customers. They shoiuld make sure there is always an exchange of value between two parties with their marketing efforts. Business houses should keep in mind that business tactics should always be ethical. hey should be persuading a person to buy a product because they really need it, and when the companies are certain that this product will bring value into their lives. Michele and his family are in a dreadful situation where Piano is often away from home for long periods of time as he tries to provide financially for his family. Times are tough and when the adults are bullied by Sergei into believing that damping the boy and asking for a ransom is the best thing to do and the only way of making their situation better they take it. In a way they are to be pitied for this because one can see that they are almost innocently Just trying to better their family. It is ironic to think they were happier before they kidnapped the boy and this helps to show that although man has the capacity to be evil it is never the right thing to do. Sergei uses verbal abuse and bullying to make all of his Southern followers believe that what they are doing is not only the right thing, but that it will help them to lead deter lives: Right from the start, you people have made one mistake after another told them up North we couldnt rely on you Youre incompetent. He uses this as a kind of reverse psychology in order to get them to stick with the plan. This shows individual peoples capability to be evil and to use others to better themselves and their situations in times of poverty, whether it is Sergei trying to use others to help him with his schemes or Piano and Teresa using others to better their lives, both situations demonstrate a definite capacity for evil in humans. The fact that Piano and Teresa engage in the kidnapping, even though they are Just trying to better their position shows that humans have the aptitude for self-destruction as well as evil. In the final scene when Piano shoots his own son because he is indulging in acts of evil it is evident that humans not only have the capacity for evil but for self-destruction as well. When Piano is holding his son who he has shot he pleads with the authorities to help him because he finally realizes Just how much he had and that he didnt appreciate that enough and if he hadnt done the wrong thing he may still have been able to keep all that he once had: l didnt recognize him. Help me, please, hes my son. Hes wounded. I didnt The scene reveals Just how mans capacity for evil enables greater capacity for self-destruction, however this idea is used to show that although man has the facility to indulge in acts of wickedness and self-destruction not all people do and this is also made clear by Amanita throughout the novel. The use of bullying and poverty is incorporated by Amanita to demonstrate mans capacity for evil but this is also used to demonstrate that not all people use their ability to be evil and self-destructive. Some people, such as Michele, are capable of kindness and compassion even when the people around them are indulging themselves in acts of evil and self-destruction. Before Piano finds out that Michele knows about the boy in the hole, Michele stumbles upon the adults having a meeting bogeyman by day he was good, but at night he was bad. This realization causes him to lose some of his respect for his father and he decides that he must see Fillips again. Michele sees Fillips mother on the news telling Fillips that she loves him. Michele sneaks out to find Fillips again: l must go. And I must tell him about his other, that she still loved him and that she had said so on television. This act of extreme selflessness by Michele next to his discovery that his father is evil reinforces the compassion of Michele when he sneaks off, putting himself in danger, in order to do the right thing by Fillips. This illustrates the true ability that humans have to be compassionate against all odds even when others are being cruel and evil. Because Michele has such a strong connection with his father he finds it difficult to go against what his father wants when he finds out that Michele had met Fillips and knew what was going on. He knows that the promises his father forces him to make are morally wrong and so he must choose between defying his father who he loves or doing what is right and in the end he does what is right because he knows that what has been done to Fillips cannot be Justified no matter how much he loves his father and wants to believe that there is still good in him. Michele does try to forget about Fillips and this shows that humans have the capacity to show compassion which is what Amanita is trying to demonstrate by the polar opposites of Michele and his fathers actions. Michele struggles with his conscious because he wants to do right by his ether while also doing the right thing: What was I going to do? I had promised him I would go and see him again, but I couldnt, I had sworn to papa that I wouldnt go. Because he has promised Fillips he will come back he is tormented by the thought of not returning to him and helping him. This proves that although Michele, like any human being, has the capacity for evil and self-destruction he also has the capacity for selflessness and compassion which is a major part of the novel as Amanita describes the two very different sides of human nature through very different characters. Im not scared by Niccole Amanita incorporates poverty and bullying to enhance the idea that humans have a definite capacity for evil and self-destruction but this idea is also used to illustrate the fact that people are capable of rising above this and can act in selfless and compassionate ways regardless of the ways people are acting around them. This description of the different forms of human nature provides an important lesson for all and shows that even in the most extreme of situations when social decay is overwhelming humans have the ability to rise up and do the right thing.

He also was a great educator. Jefferson would study fifteen hours every day when he was young, because learning was important to him, (Greene 11). He wanted people to have a chance to learn. So he started the University of Virginia. He planned the buildings and chose the teachers. He was known as the father of the University of Virginia, (Greene 40). He was one of the leading scientists of his day in America. He tried new ways of planting crops and raising animals, (Greene 37). He was one of the first farmers to grow tomatoes in the United States, (Greene 25). One of his other talents was that he was a creative inventor. He invented a machine that could write two copies of a letter at the same time. He invented a tiny elevator called a "dumbwaiter" to carry things up to his dining room from the basement. Jefferson also invented storm windows, a chair that turned, and much more, (Patterson 25). Jefferson was chairman of the committee to write the Declaration of Independence. He was asked by the other four members of the committee to write the first draft of the Declaration. When he wrote the Declaration of Independence, he wrote it with common words and phrases so all could understand the plain truth of his statements. He did not consult a book or pamphlet when writing it. Everything came straight from his mind and heart, (Patterson 36). He made many changes to the Declaration before he was happy with what he wrote. He was known throughout the colonies as a great writer on political issues.

Not satisfied, the agency undertook another research, which revealed two issues that needed to be addressed immediately.
